Stockholm Botanical Gardens

A few years ago on a holiday to Stockholm I visited Bergianska trädgården. The botanical garden on the outskirts of the city. I spent a very relaxing Sunday morning at this lovely garden.

You know how it is, sometimes you visit a place and it doesn’t live up to your expectations. Well that is definitely not the case with Stockholm, I loved it. I took the Metro from the city centre and alighted near university campus. A short walk and I was at the lovely botanical gardens.

I haven’t been to many botanical gardens but the one in Stockholm has rooms displaying different habitats from around the world. This seems to be the way it’s done. It’s a good way to get ideas about plants and how to display them at home. I discovered Tillandsias (air plants) this way and now find them springing up all over the house.

The grounds are just as interesting as the glass houses. The site is next to a beautiful lake and there is wildflower meadow on the edge of it. Again there are plenty of ideas you could incorporate into a smaller garden.

There’s even a fruit and veg garden which provided an opportunity to sit in the shade as a pleasant summers morning turned into a hot afternoon. That then was my visit over, time for a spot of lunch before I headed back to the hustle and bustle of the beautiful city of Stockholm.

  1. I think it’s a plant called Philodendron but which one I am not sure. It’s a tropical plant that would have to be grown indoors here but could be grown outside in warmer areas.
