The Greatest Gaelic Poet

I came across this monument a few weeks ago in the little churchard at Balnakeil in Sutherland dedicated to the local poet ‘Rob Donn’ Robert Mackay (1714 – 1778). He was considered by some to be the greatest Gaelic poet. Truthfully, I don’t know enough about the subject to comment but I thought I would share these photos.

    1. It is a lovely language to hear spoken. I enjoy watching foreign language TV and film. There are sometimes interesting documentaries on BBC Alba. When I was a young child my grandmother taught me a handful of Welsh words, which still come out from the depths of my memory occasionally. Languages are fun.
