Mile Zero

Mile zero, York Railway Station. Start of 10 historic North Eastern Railway lines.

I like to visit places that make me wonder about the the lives of the countless humans that have come and gone before. Churchyards and other historical places are good. You can touch the wall or sit where they have been. I then try to imagine the lives and stories.

A sign in a railway station that I saw has even managed to do that. It got me thinking about the scores of people who had begun, ended or just passed through this station on their journey. I guess every single human tale that is imaginable has been at mile zero at some point or other.

Longlands Loop (Northallerton), Market Weighton & Beverley, Micklefield Branch, Raskelf Curve, Sherburn Branch, York & Scarborough, York & North Midland, York & Newcastle, York & Market Weighton, York & Harrogate.

    1. It is a beautiful city. I like to go early on a Sunday morning when it’s a bit quieter. Lots of hungover stags and hens heading back to the station. 😂
